Writing

“If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it.”

Toni Morrison

At Churchfield CE Academy, we have an inclusive approach, and our main aim is to ensure that all children can access the learning and have context to their learning. To make this happen, we have a 2-week writing cycle, which incorporates and covers all the learning styles preferences (visual, audio and kinaesthetic) ensuring that all preferred learning styles of the children are catered for across the course of a half-term.

The first week of the writing cycle is the immersion stage, where the children are exposed to a range of learning styles, and they are completely absorbed in all the relevant resources and learning needed to ensure they write well.

The second week is the writing week. This gives the adult(s) and children the opportunity to unpick a good example (WAGOLL – what a good one looks like) and identify the features of this. Then a plan of their writing is constructed with support/modelling from the adult using the: ‘I do, WE do and YOU do’ approach. This approach is maintained as the children start to write across a two-session period. Finally, an editing session takes place with support from the teachers.
